  • Module 7: Compare/Contrast

In the previous module, you learned how to evaluate a specific item, person, place, or phenomenon. And now we need to put that knowledge to further use--being able to evaluate something is the first step to evaluating similar or related things--and this skill is one you'll practice at work and in private. Life is full of choices--you'll have to compare and contrast them.

Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:

    1. Define the purpose and structure of the compare and contrast essay
    2. Produce a compare and contrast essay

    To achieve these objectives:

    1. Read the Module 7 Introduction
    2. Read and view the materials in chapter 9 on Comparing and Contrasting in Writing Rhetorically.
    3. Complete the two sets of discussion questions and the Your Turn activity that appear in chapter 9.
    4. Review the Compare and Evaluate assignment sheet and the student worksheet.
